Jammu and Kashmir State Hydel Policy 2010 - Comments invited from general public

JK State Hydro Power ProjectsThe Government of Jammu and Kashmir has released the draft version of the state's hydel policy in June 2010. The policy has been drafted by the Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Limited (JKPDCL) and is available on their website here

Hydropower is one of the J&K’s key resources and the state government intends to accelerate harnessing this potential as an integral part of its economic development. Even though the state is yet to achieve self-sufficiency in meeting its own requirement, there is an urgent need to develop its huge untapped hydro-potential expeditiously and in an efficient manner. The State is endowed with a hydro power potential of 20,000 MWS out of which a mere 11.68 % i.e. 2336.20 MWs has been harnessed so far. The proposed policy thus places a strong thrust on development of new and existing hydro power projects in the State.
