MoEF Gov of India

The challenge of environmental management and regulation is immense in a country as large and diverse as India. Over the years, legislation has evolved. With the enactment of the Environment (Protection) Act 1986, the various rules and notifications, and the National Environment Policy 2006, a credible legislative and policy base has been created. But there are gaps in the institutional mechanisms and implementation has not kept pace with the legislative and policy evolution.

To over come this problem Ministry Of Environment & Forests (MoEF) Government Of India, has put forward few plans to set up a National Environment Protection Authority (NEPA), which will be responsible for the creation of new policies, implementation of regulations and dispensation of justice in the environmental domain in India.

Ministry Of Environment & Forests (MoEF) Government Of India, has invited comments from the States, civil society, and other stakeholders regarding the design of an appropriate institutional structure for best addressing the growing environmental challenges.

Urekaa! Pee For Power

Content Courtesy: Times Of India

Pee (Urine) that we all flush down the toilet can be the solution to our power crises, now how many of us thought of that. This is exactly what the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is planning to do, to convert urine collected in its public urinals into power. The civic agency has roped in engineers from a US-based company Karan Aneja and Siddhartha Saha, who are engineering graduates from University of California, Berkeley, to study the feasibility of producing power from urine released from its waterless urinals, which are ceramic bowls containing negligible water and bio-degradable chemicals in a cartridge.

Aneja, who is a bio-engineer, claims that they have already generated electricity from urine and their company, SIDKAR, has set up a plant at Okhla as a pilot project. Said Aneja: "From 1 litre of urine, we will be able to produce 1 KW of power. Using a bacterial process in a power plant, urine is converted into hydrogen gas and water. While water is cleaned by reverse osmosis and can be used for industrial purpose, hydrogen is used to produce electricity.''Read More
