Need help to identify water source to drill a borewell

I have had two failed borewell 525 & 795 feet deep respectively. Need help to identify a new borewell water source in my farm.

2. A point where two lines intersect is the perfect point for bore

If the borewell is not dug at the perfect point, you will not get water even if you go very deep. I have helping people to dig borewells/open wells over the last 12 years. There has not been any failure.

You need to find an expert in this in your area. People use different methods, coconut, dowsing rods etc. Whatever be the method, the person walks on the land, for eg. with the coconut on his palm. When he crosses an underground water vein, the coconut will stand upright on its own. This is visible to everybody. He has to find many such lines. Some lines intersect.

A point where two lines intersect is the perfect point for bore. There are occasions when he will find more than 2 lines crossing, such intersecting points are the best. Some people may be very skeptical about this method but my experience is otherwise. There has not been a single failure during the last 12 years. Get an expert from your area, watch for what he does. If he is able to do as described above, you can be sure of the perfect point.

1. Links for borewell drilling points

Dear Sandip,

Thanks for writing to India Water Portal. Please go through the link on previous queries and comments on identifying good drilling points

You can also go through the IWP ‘Directory’ - to find contact details of organisations and individuals in your area who might be able to assist you.

You may also go through a note below by an expert on borwell drilling.

1. If I decide to go for another bore well, what are things I should look for?

The first thing is that you have to identify the most favourable site to drill a bore well where you are most likly to get copious amount of ground water that is sustainable for some considerable period to support your agriculture and other activities in your 2 acres of land.

For this you have to contact one the best geophysicist, hydrogeologist or Groundwater bore well locating expert consultancy firms who have considerable experience in the trade of art and expertise in the groundwater spectrum of activities. And further you should search for firms / persons who use more sophisticated and recent deep probing geophysical instruments that can measure the required parameters accurately with permissible errors from deeper depths.

Normally resistivity profiling and soundings are used in these kind of ground water well siting. Dipole-Dipole profiling or single pole resistivity profiling or normal profiling methodology can be adopted for locating vertical discontinuity where likely hood of more chances to strike a better yield site exists, in hard rock terrain. In sedimentary this slightly differ, where you need to search for thick bedded water holding layers. Latter it has to be confirmed with Vertical Electrical sounding method.

2. Example - Fast drilling vs slow drilling, how many feets of casing pipe should I use?

This can be only be explained by the concerned consultant who will analyse the local lithology and inform you. Normally in hard rock terrain DTH fast drilling is employed with high pressure compressor mounted rigs. In sedimentary areas Rotary rigs are used and in fringe areas combination rigs are employed. This will be ascertained by the visiting consultant who will advice you regarding the type of rig and type of methodology of drilling and well completion.

Casing depth can only be decided normally while negotiating the drilling. But based on the nearby lithological and Geohydrological analysis the visiting Consultant can provide you the required data and answer your all the other doubts or any other cropping up doubts related to this work.

3. When should I stop drilling? How to make sure flushing is done properly.

When you reach the recommended depth by the consultant you stop the drilling if you are able to get the required quantum of water or as said by the report. Better you seek the advice again from the same consultant if you are not technically sound.

4. If the casing is broken while drilling, should I ask them to replace etc..

Naturally it has to replaced after carefully removing the broken pipe.

If you would have provided the location details, professionals like me can refer to the maps and published report and give you much more information. Never the less I feel I have given you general answer to your doubts, which may be useful to others as you wished.

But to give answer to your specific problem about your failure and other related query if you supply the location of your 2 acre plot, it may be possible to address the site specific doubts and reasons there off.
