Acid smell in water from open well - smell persists even after cleaning with bleaching powder how to get rid of it?

In my residence at Karaikudi, Tamilnadu we have used well water for 15 Years for all purposes including drinking. For the past 20 days it has an acid like smell, even after using bleaching powder it remains the same.

For drinking purposes it's purified by RO System so no smell, but for bathing is it advisible to use it? How to get rid of the acid smell?

1. Links on purification of bore water and TDS

Dear Venkateswaran,

Thanks for writing to India Water Portal. When water quality problems are being faced it would be advisable to carry out a water quality test. The Portal maintains a list of water testing laboratories on the India Water Portal Blog, access here:http://indiawaterportal.org/post/1797

The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under the Government of India hosts a query for finding the nearest water quality lab for any taluk/block in the country, access here: http://indiawater.gov.in/IMISWeb/Reports/WQMSP/rpt_TestSamples.aspx?rep=Y

You may go through this link http://www.indiawaterportal.org/ask/18640 on previous queries and comments on purifying bore water

Further to learn about TDS, you can read a note on it at this link http://www.indiawaterportal.org/ask/5305

Hope this information is of some use to you.

Thanks.
