Malodorous STP : Consultant Required - Bangalore

The STP in our apartment (4 years old) in Bangalore is built in the basement. The problem is that no  adequate aeration has  not been provided by the builder. This has resulted in a bad odour for a whole block whenever the door is opened. We have been trying to get someone knowledgable to retrofit some good aeration and exhaust systems to fix the issue but to no avail.

I would like help in two areas :

1. How best can such a situation be remedied?

2. Do you know of any knowledgable and reliable people/companies that can take a look and suggest/implement a solution to this problem?

Thanks in advance!

1. Solutions for Waste- water treatment

 Dear bkrram,

Pl. look into back issues of IWP- Queries and answers, you would get a lot of back-ground info on how best a wwt- plant - STP is made and operated.

You have to get data on your quantity of effluent how much litres per day. Are they both mixed in dischage and at your treatment etc..

There are firms of repute, senior-membrs/ experts who are based in Bangalore who may be contacted for this assignment.

The treatment has to be systammatic, to start with anaerobic in a baffled- septic tank, then may be part aerobic with aerators and floculators etc.. Then some STP'S have force-feed aeration. Some chemical treatment / dosing is also done to process w-wtr.

Our Ngo propagates all natural, no- mechanised type, STP using tanks, filters and plants to clean ( bio-remediation) w-water is finally cleaned using flower- plants (cayhna-) and the recycled water is fit- enough for toilet- flusning, horticulture.

You may be guided by the above,

2. Dear Ram,   Kindly furnish

Dear Ram,

Kindly furnish some details in order to ascertain the problem.

a.       What is the capacity of your STP?

b.      Who is the supplier?

c.       What is the process (like a screen, grit chamber, an aeration tank) - if there is any flow diagram provided by the vendor, may be you can attach it.

d.      Is it local?

How you can conclude that lack of aeration is the only reason for foul smell. It may be the inlet sump where the sewage remains for a longer period and get septic and cause the foul smellIt is better to have a complete overview.
