Success Stories in the Water Sector in New Delhi?! Share Experiences here!

Could the members on the forum kindly share with me a few important case studies/major successful stories/water crises in New Delhi? It would helpful to upgrade my knowledge in the water sector.

I am working as a Project Coordinator in Action India an implementing NGO in North Delhi for the WATSAN Project. I would like to understand more details on WATSAN issues which are ongoing in Delhi. So It would hep me to share a few important case studies with facts with my field staff so that they can share the information as part of their community empowerment on WATSAN Issues. Thus the information would prove quite helpful!

Dear Sowmya,

The information on successful case projects or studies from Delhi despite of many efforts put by both by the NGOs and Public sector, the results on ground is very poor. Many NGOs are working in this sector especially in the slums, but still miles to go.

We at Development Alternatives have started a nation wide programme called Community Led Environmental Action Network (CLEAN-India) in year 2000 and now it is continuing. The programme is about bringing awareness among the communities and taking action based on the problem identified. It is four pronged approach-4As- Assessment, Awareness, Action and then Advocacy. We involved School children and trained them on water quality monitoring and management by using simple to use field based water testing kits and management practices. For water purification we installed community based water purification systems in few places.

NGOs like CSE, TERI, WaterAid-Delhi Hazard centre and many more are also working on watsan issues in Delhi.

At the last, as per my knowledge there are no successful case studies available at this point of time. Efforts are being made in this direction and we have to see the future.
