Solar Powered Aerators: Feasibility & Availability

I am trying to collect information regarding Solar powered aerators. Are they available in the Indian market? Would like to know the experience who has worked with solar powered or backed aerators in their various roles . Kindly provide information on vendor contact information or fabrication resources regarding the same.

Dear Giri,

The concept of solar powered aerators has not yet been looked into in the country. This may also be due to the high amperage requirement for the same. The crux lies in manufacturing a, low energy type aerator and having suitable amperage to feed it by solar cell.

Dear Giri,

India has a very large number of companies in water treatment for industrial use, public health and domestic use. One of the answers to you question suggests you read the Water Digest http://waterdigest.in . I would also suggest another source called everything about water.
Also you may contact - Biotech Services, Noida, UP
Kindly contact: info@septictanktreatment.biz

Both these publish very comprehensive directories on all the companies in India with addresses, contact phone numbers as well as their websites so that you can visit the websites and find out what each company does.
Following is the list of the companies / organizations that work for the solar power in the industrial usage.

Dear Mr. Giri,

Smallest aerator available in market is of 2 HP. Solar pumps are available in Market. Possibility can be explored to attach the drive of pump to the aerator. I have asked our supplier however no one has made the efforts to do so.

As an alternative, you can use solar power driven most natural system called as Stabilization Pond. Solar energy is directly trap by the algae to provide the oxygen.

Please call if you need any further information.

Dear Giri,

I have made enquiries and searched, but have not found any one who makes them in India. There are several manufacturers of aerators and also those who manufacture solar power packs.

Until such manufacturers come together for a common purpose,i.e to make available solar powered aerators, I do not see such devices being made available. In developed countries there are several manufacturers of solar recirculation systems which are used for aeration.

Waste water treatment in India has increasingly seen a shift to extended, diffused aeration where disc or membrane type diffusers are used with rotary lobe type air blowers to supply air for aeration through the diffusers. Solar power packs for these blowers are likely to be prohibitively expensive in view of the high power requirements. I am sorry I can not help any more in this search.

Powering the aerators using electricity that is produced with the conventional techniques(most of them create severe pollution), is an old practice.

Using solar devices to power the aerators is a modern trend, yet to pick up in India.

You may also consider the following upcoming trend that is from India and is already established at the field scale:
- Pollution of water is due to nitrates.
- Nitrates create oxygen demand and deplete dissolved oxygen in water.
- Aerators are run to supply oxygen to compensate this.
- Latest eco-logical technique is to reduce nitrates through some plant mechanism, this converts nitrates into oxygen. This is double action, like converting a loan into a fixed deposit.

We have saved 500 HP of aerator power at Nashik, while treating 150 MLD of sewage and demonstrated this eco-logic. BIOSANITIZER ecochips are added into the sewage system and then the aerators are shut off. They are unnecessary now.
