Design and operational questions regarding treatment plant

Dear Sirs,

              1. What are the requirements for designing water treatment plant , effluent treatment plant and sewage treatment plant?

              2. How will we check Chlorine in raw sewage? we are not able to check Chlorine in pocket colorimeter and guardex test kit also.

3.what are the feed and output final product parameters of sewage treatment plant, effluent treatment plant and water treatment plant?

4.Please give me list of equipments, for analyse all parameters in water accurately?

Thanking you

1. What are the requirements for designing water treatment plant , effluent
treatment plant and sewage treatment plant?

The basic requirements for designing any treatment plant are three: Quantity of water to be treatedper day, Inlet quality and Expected outlet quality.

Other parameters affect how you apply the technology: e.g in how many hours is the treated water/wastewater required. Some plants may be batch type, some continuous operation type.

All plants have their own individual requirements however minor and as an engineerwe must try to accomodate the requirements in a manner that is not only effective treatment wise but also cost effective.

2. How will we check Chlorine in raw sewage? we r not able to check Chlorine
in pocket colorimeter and guardex test kit also.

Chlorine maybe exhausted since the residual bacteria present in sewage may be exhausting the same. Chlorine in sewage is to reduce the bacterialcount and it's dosing may be carried out by calculation method. Also, aeration in equalization tank may be reducing the chlorine content in raw sewage. Kindly inform us in more detail, the process adopted so we can advise you better.

3.what are the feed and output final product parameters of sewage treatment plant, effluent treatment plant and water treatment plant?

Feed quality for effluent depends on the industry and where the wastewater is generated from.In fact, you may find that the same industry shall provide different quality of wastewater at two different places. This is because of the adopted process for manufacture by indstry. Feed water for water treatment depends on the source of water whether river, canal, pond or borewell (which differs from area to area). Feed quality for sewage may be BOD 250 mg/l, COD 600 mg/l, Oil and grease 40 mg/l, pH 6.5, Total suspended soilds 200mg/l.This is average available quality.

Outlet quality depends mainly on the discharge. Standards for discharge are laid down by various state pollution control authorities and depends on whether discharge shall be on land, water body or rivers. The discharge standards are not hard to find on the net.
